Competent Bodies in Austria

Apprenticeship Office (Lehrlingsstelle)

The Apprenticeship Offices have considerable duties as competent operating bodies. They are located in the regional economic chamber but act on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Economy. They assess and approve (together with the regional chamber of labour) apprenticeship companies. The Apprenticeship Offices also organise the final apprenticeship exams.

The Provincial Governors decide on appeals in apprenticeship training matters, such as the withdrawal of the authorisation as a training company, and on cancellations of illegally registered apprenticeship training contracts. Provincial Governors appoint the members of their respective LBAB.

Vocational schools

Part-time vocational schools are completed if the apprentice finishes every school year successfully. If the last year of the part-time vocational school is not completed successfully, there is an additional theoretical part within the final apprenticeship examination.
