Occupation and Competence Radar
With the Occupation and Competence Radar, the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) is developing an innovative data-based information portal for vocational education and training as well as labor market development. The Occupation and Competence Radar differs from other portals in the range of topics covered (e.g. digitalisation, green economy, staff shortages) and the possiblities for combining them at sectoral and occupational level.
The Occupation and Competence Radar is an innovative, data-driven information portal. It processes and provides information on vocational education and training and labour market developments.
The project is part of the "Occupation and Competence Radar" unit at the Federal Insstitute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) and is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
Important decisions require a solid knowledge base. Due to the constant changes in the labour market, e.g. through digital, socio-ecological or demographic transformation, various groups of people and stakeholders - e.g. trainees, employees, companies or political decision-makers - are constantly confronted with new challenges.
As a public source of information, the occupational and competence radar is intended to help in the search for information and decision-making and to reflect the dynamic changes in vocational education and training and labour market development.
For research, the database on which the Occupation and Skills Radar is based also offers a harmonised data set for occupational and skills analysis.
The development of the Occupation and Competence Radar is divided into two phases:
By the end of 2023, the data will be collected, prepared, harmonised and documented in order to process the existing data base and then continuously develop it further. Parallel to this and building on it, the online portal for users will be created, tested and put into trial operation by the end of 2024. At the end of 2025, the online portal will be put into continuous operation.
From 2026 onwards and after successful evaluation, the database will be made available to the research community on a larger scale and will be continuously updated and expanded.
