In times of societal transformation, the interaction between the labour market and VET is facing considerable challenges. This issue of BWP asks how VET can be structured in a way which enables it to keep pace with the speed of the transformation.

The current trend is for digital competence measurement
Digitalisation is opening up new opportunities for measuring competencies of trainees. Research indicates a clear trend towards computer-based testing tools. This is the finding of a literature-based overview study by BIBB which has now been published.
In light of the rising numbers of higher education students, the BIBB has conducted a study into which pupils are more likely to commence a programme of vocational education and training despite being having a higher education entrance qualification.
Dr. Volker Rein to complete research secondment in the USA
For a period of three months Dr. Rein (BIBB) will conduct research on the subject of “Compatible degree and non-degree post-secondary education in the US“ at the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies (AICGS) in Washington DC .
BIBB Report published on validation of non-formal and informal learning
The call for greater account to be taken on the labour market of non-formal and informal learning now enjoys a broad degree of consent in Germany. Validation procedures should capture individual competencies and be oriented towards qualification standards. These are the results of a BIBB survey.
