Shaping digital development

Conference of the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD)

The high-level UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development staged its 18th Annual Session in Geneva. Prof. Dr. Michael Heister, Head of the “Vocational Teaching and Learning, National Programmes and Pilot Schemes” Department at BIBB, took part in the event in his capacity as a vocational education and training expert.

The main focus of the session was on the formal adoption of two documents relating to digital development and to strategic planning of the post 2015-development agenda. Individual aspects of these two resolutions were the object of more extensive scrutiny at a podium discussion on 6 May, where issues debated included the necessity of redoubling efforts in the field of education.

Prof. Heister presented the German vocational education and training system and described its flexibility with regard to the adaption of technical changes. During the subsequent plenary discussions, delegates from the United States, Hungary and Austria expressly welcomed the contribution vocational education is able to make in terms of reacting to technical changes.

Information on the conference and its outcomes and on the presentation given by Professor Heister is available from the following websites.
